Chapman House

Branding a Culinary Destination

Brand + Form

Zoyes | Chapman House

The Chapman House is an architecturally striking residence situated in the heart of downtown Rochester, Michigan. Originally built in 1917 by William Clark Chapman, a prominent entrepreneur and politician, the grand home was reimagined as a bistro and special event destination in 2015.

Designed to integrate the inherent sophistication of the iconic venue with an innovative culinary program and modern appointments, Chapman House debuted as a new and necessary dining destination for the area. Zoyes worked with restauranteur Geoff Dancik to craft a contemporary brand that would pay homage to the restaurant’s notable history.

Branded by Heritage

Drawing inspiration from the legacy of the Chapman family, we developed an identity that references their heritage as textile manufacturers through the woven threads of the "CH" monogram. A highly tactile suite of identity materials were produced in a crisp black + white palette, serving as a contemporary foil for the classically designed architecture.

The developer and his team sought to create a space that would serve as a world-class culinary destination as well as a comfortable gathering place for local families, a goal that inspired the tagline "cuisine and conversation."
